Kollmorgen 603-S60300-PB

Model Number: 603-S60300-PB

Product Overview:
The 603-S60300-PB is a digital I/O expansion board (option card) for Kollmorgen AKD series servo drives. The “PB” designation indicates it is a Profibus DP communication module that enables the AKD drive to integrate into Profibus industrial networks. This board is installed directly into the drive’s option slot.

  • Input Filter Time: 0.1 ms to 10 ms (adjustable per channel)
  • Output Response Time: < 100 µs
  • Max Number of Devices on Bus: 126 (standard Profibus limit)

Material Composition:

  • PCB: FR-4, 4-layer, gold-plated contacts
  • Connector: Sub-D 9-pin (Profibus) + 50-pin backplane connector
  • Housing: ABS plastic, UL94 V-0 rated

Structural Features:

  • Board-level module — slides into AKD drive option slot
  • Secured via captive screws to drive chassis
  • Front-facing LED indicators
  • Rear-facing 50-pin connector mates with drive backplane

Working Principle:
The board contains a Profibus DP slave controller ASIC that handles all protocol stack processing. Digital I/O signals from the machine are conditioned (optically isolated) and mapped to Profibus process data image (PDI). The AKD drive reads/writes this PDI during each Profibus cycle, enabling real-time I/O control over the fieldbus.

Advantages & Highlights:

  • Eliminates external I/O modules — reduces wiring and cabinet space
  • Deterministic communication — guaranteed cycle times
  • Full diagnostic capability — each I/O point is individually monitorable
  • Widely supported in Siemens-dominated environments

Applicable Industries:

  • Automotive manufacturing lines
  • Steel and metal processing
  • Printing and packaging
  • Material handling and conveyor systems
  • Any Profibus-based automation architecture

Installation Requirements:

  • Install in AKD drive option slot (right side, top position)
  • Connect Profibus cable (shielded twisted pair, 120Ω termination required at both ends of bus)
  • Configure station address via AKD Workbench software
  • Set GSD file in master PLC project

Usage Notes:

  • Terminate Profibus bus with 120Ω resistor at each end
  • Do not exceed 24 V DC on any I/O terminal
  • Ensure proper grounding of shield at one end only
  • Update firmware via AKD Workbench to maintain compatibility
