Functional Features:
- Slotless (ironless) rotor eliminates cogging torque entirely, delivering ultra-smooth motion at very low speeds
- 3-pole, 12-slot commutation provides excellent torque linearity across the full speed range
- High-resolution 5000 CPR encoder enables precise velocity and position feedback
- Low rotor inertia (9 x 10⁻⁵ kg·m²) enables extremely fast acceleration: 0 to 3000 RPM in under 20 ms
- Precious metal commutator (Gold/Palladium alloy) ensures long brush life and low electrical noise
Material Composition:
- Stator: Ironless (air-core) winding, self-supporting copper coil
- Rotor: Carbon Fiber Tube with NdFeB Magnets (N42), bonded with high-temperature epoxy
- Housing: Stainless Steel 304
- Shaft: Stainless Steel 17-4PH
- Commutator: Copper-Gold-Palladium Alloy
- Brushes: Precious Metal (AuPd), 5 mm x 8 mm x 15 mm
Working Principle:
Current flows through the ironless stator windings, creating a magnetic field that interacts with the permanent magnets on the carbon-fiber rotor tube. The commutator and brush assembly mechanically switches current direction in the windings as the rotor turns, maintaining continuous unidirectional torque. The incremental encoder generates quadrature signals (A/B/Z) proportional to shaft rotation, providing velocity and position feedback to the servo drive.
Advantages:
- Zero cogging torque due to slotless design — ideal for low-speed precision applications
- Extremely low torque ripple (< 0.5%) for smooth motion in optical and inspection systems
- Ultra-low rotor inertia for fastest acceleration in its class
- Long brush life (> 5000 hours) due to precious metal commutator
- Wide speed range with linear torque from 0 to 5000 RPM
Applicable Industries:
- Optical Inspection Systems
- Semiconductor Wafer Steppers
- Medical Imaging (CT/MRI Gantry)
- Antenna Positioning Systems
- Telescope Drive Systems
- Precision Gimbals
Installation Requirements:
- Mount on a rigid base with M4 mounting holes; torque to 2.5 Nm
- Couple using a zero-backlash bellows coupling for best performance
- Align shaft concentricity within 0.02 mm
- Apply light machine oil to commutator surface during initial break-in (first 10 hours)
- Replace brushes at 5000 hours or when sparking is observed
Usage Notes:
- Do not operate without an encoder connected; the drive requires feedback for commutation
- Monitor brush wear visually through the inspection port every 1000 hours
- Do not exceed 8000 RPM; this is the mechanical limit of the rotor assembly
- Store in a dry environment; moisture degrades the commutator surface
