Honeywell 8C-PDILA1

Product Introduction: The 8C-PDILA1 (part number 51454471-175) is a ruggedized discrete input module within Honeywell’s Series 8 I/O family, engineered for Experion PKS C300 and C200 distributed control systems. The “8C” prefix denotes factory-applied G3 conformal coating, which protects the printed circuitry against moisture, dust, chemical vapors, and corrosive atmospheres per ISA S71.04. It acquires 32 channels of 24 VDC discrete field signals and converts them into deterministic digital values for the controller.

Detailed content

Technical Specifications:
  • Channels: 32 single-ended digital inputs
  • Input voltage range: 18–30 VDC (nominal 24 VDC)
  • ON-state sense voltage/current: 13 VDC min or 3 mA min (15–30 VDC logic high)
  • OFF-state sense voltage/current: 5 VDC max or 1.2 mA max (0–5 VDC logic low)
  • Input impedance: 4.2 kΩ
  • Typical input current: 7 mA @ 24 VDC
  • Module current draw: 95 mA @ 24 VDC
  • Response time: 5 ms typical (5 ms ± 20% absolute delay across filter and isolation)
  • Galvanic isolation: 1000 VAC RMS or ±1500 VDC (channel-to-channel and channel-to-system), optical isolation technique
  • Maximum power consumption: 4.5 W
  • Operating temperature: -40 °C to +70 °C
  • Humidity tolerance: 5%–95% non-condensing
Functional Features:
  • G3 conformal coating for harsh-environment deployment (offshore platforms, chemical processing, petrochemical)
  • Extensive internal diagnostics for data integrity
  • Optional redundancy accomplished directly on the IOTA — a second IOM can be added to the same IOTA without external cabling
  • Hot-swap (Removal and Insertion Under Power) supported
  • Compatible with IEC 61131-2 and IEC 60068-2
  • Fully validated for redundant IOTA configurations
Application Scenarios: Discrete-state acquisition in pharmaceutical manufacturing (GMP-regulated, 21 CFR Part 11 support), chemical and petrochemical processing (reactor limit switches, ESD valve position feedback, safety interlock status), and offshore oil & gas platforms (wellhead monitoring, ESD logic).
Structural & Material Characteristics: Slim vertical form factor typical of Series 8 I/O, dimensions approximately 60 × 155 × 145 mm, weight ~0.3 kg. The PCB carries a protective conformal coating layer; the module mounts onto a matching IOTA backplane which distributes 24 VDC field power.
Working Principle: Field-supplied 24 VDC discrete signals pass through input filtering and optical isolation before being scanned by the onboard I/O processor. The filtered and isolated logic state is transmitted across the Series 8 I/O Link to the C300 controller. ON/OFF thresholds are detected against the 13 V / 5 V boundaries respectively.
Installation Requirements:
  • Mount onto the designated Series 8 IOTA (e.g., 8C-TDILA1 for a 32-channel DI termination)
  • Field power (18–30 VDC) must be supplied to the IOTA terminals; internal excitation is available, eliminating the need for separate marshalling power
  • Ensure panel DC power supplies are isolated before module mounting
  • Verify wiring polarity; reversed polarity can damage the module
Usage Notes:
  • Do NOT exceed 30 VDC on input terminals
  • The module supports redundancy only when paired with a redundant IOTA; adding a second 8C-PDILA1 to a single IOTA enables bumpless switchover
  • Periodically inspect the conformal coating integrity in highly corrosive atmospheres (H₂S, Cl₂, ammonia)
  • Hot-swap is permitted, but verify system redundancy status before extracting a module in a live control loop
