GE TPHE277Y12PP

Product Name: GE General-Purpose Three-Phase AC Induction Motor (TEFC)
Product Introduction: The GE TPHE277Y12PP is a totally enclosed fan-cooled (TEFC) three-phase AC induction motor from GE’s general-purpose motor product line. With frame size 277T, dual voltage 277 V / 480 V, 12 HP (≈9 kW) and 4-pole design, it is suited for pumps, fans, compressors and a wide variety of industrial machinery drives. (Note: some third-party catalogs classify this designation under ABB surge protection devices; the GE industrial motor interpretation aligns with the GE product naming convention.)

Performance Parameters: Full-load current (FLA) 11.0 A at 480 V / 19.0 A at 277 V; locked-rotor current (LRA) 66 A at 480 V / 114 A at 277 V; rated torque ≈ 47 N·m; locked-rotor torque / rated torque = 180%; breakdown torque / rated torque = 225%; noise ≤ 72 dB(A) at 1 m full-load; vibration ≤ 2.5 mm/s RMS (NEMA MG1).
Material Composition: Frame and end shields in grey cast iron HT250; stator core in 0.5 mm silicon steel laminations (B35A230 grade); stator winding in copper magnet wire (QZ-2 polyester enameled wire) with F-class insulation; rotor bars in cast aluminum (squirrel-cage rotor); shaft in 45# carbon steel, quenched and tempered; terminal box in cast aluminum alloy, IP55.
Structural Features: Frame size 277T (NEMA standard); foot mounting (B3) with four base bolt holes; keyed shaft extension, shaft diameter 1-3/8 in (≈34.9 mm), shaft length ≈ 3-1/2 in (≈88.9 mm); top terminal box for convenient cable entry; fan cover in stamped steel plate, IP55; overall weight ≈ 136 kg (300 lbs).
Working Principle: Three-phase AC supplied to the stator winding produces a rotating magnetic field at 1800 RPM synchronous speed. The rotating field cuts the rotor bars and induces current; the current-carrying rotor conductors experience Ampere force in the magnetic field, generating electromagnetic torque that drives the rotor at slightly below synchronous speed (≈1750 RPM), with slip ≈ 2.5%.
Installation Requirements: Install on a rigid foundation using the four foot-mount bolt holes. Ensure proper alignment when coupling to driven equipment. Select wiring according to the chosen voltage (277 V or 480 V) by changing the Y-connection configuration. Provide adequate ventilation for the TEFC cooling fan.
Usage Notes: High starting torque suits heavy-load starting applications. The dual-voltage design allows adaptation to different distribution systems by reconfiguring windings. Maintenance-free bearings with lifetime grease lubrication.
