Working Principle:​ Under sustained overload the bimetallic thermal element heats and bends, tripping the mechanism after a time inversely proportional to the current magnitude (long-time characteristic). Under a short-circuit the electromagnetic coil generates a instantaneous magnetic force that releases the latch immediately (instantaneous characteristic). Both actions open the contacts and isolate the faulted circuit.
Installation Requirements:​ Mount as a bolt-on breaker in a compatible GE panelboard or MCC; torque the line and load lugs to the specified value for the conductor size; verify the supply phase sequence; install optional accessories (shunt trip, auxiliary contacts) per the relevant GE wiring diagram.
Usage Precautions:​ De-energize and lock out the panel before installation or removal; verify the breaker’s AIC rating meets the available fault current at the installation point; do not exceed 40 °C ambient unless the ampacity is derated; confirm polarity for reverse-feed applications.
