GE C-RS-401-00-0

Product Name
GE C-RS-401-00-0 RS485 communication expansion module for GE C-series industrial controllers.
Product Introduction
This module supplements native RS485 interfaces on GE C-series compact controllers and is used to connect Modbus RTU instruments, drives, meters and remote I/O. It is supplied as a replacement communication board for legacy control cabinets and production-line retrofits.

Detailed content

Technical Specifications
Communication interface is RS485 half-duplex. Supported protocol is Modbus RTU. Maximum baud rate is 19.2 kbps. Single bus supports up to 32 slave nodes. Operating voltage is 24 V DC. Total power consumption is 3.5 W or less. Operating temperature range is -40°C to 70°C. Dielectric withstand is 500 V DC. Built-in 120 ohm termination resistor is switchable. DIN-rail clip mounting is supported. Mean time between failures exceeds 50,000 hours.
Functional Features
The module expands RS485 node capacity compared with basic controllers. It provides isolated half-duplex transceivers, onboard termination selection, Modbus polling support and continuous bus diagnostics. Native adaptation is provided for GE C-series controllers.
Application Scenarios
GE C-series PLC communication expansion, instrumentation networks with dense meter points, conveyor and packaging line Modbus RTU links, water treatment and energy metering systems, legacy cabinet communication upgrades.
Performance Parameters
19.2 kbps maximum RS485 speed, 32 slaves per bus, 24 V DC supply, 3.5 W maximum consumption, -40°C to 70°C ambient operation, 500 V DC insulation withstand.
Material Composition
Industrial PCB with conformal coating, metal or flame-retardant plastic housing according to supplier build, gold or tin-plated RS485 terminals, onboard transient and isolation components, DIN-rail clamping hardware.
Structural Characteristics
Compact communication board format, RS485 terminal block or bus connector, DIP switches or jumpers for termination and address-related settings, LED or factory-test indicators according to build, DIN-rail mounting base.
Working Principle
The controller sends Modbus RTU frames to the module over the internal C-series bus. The module converts the frames to RS485 half-duplex signals and transmits them to field slaves. Return slave responses are received, validated and passed back to the controller CPU for register update, alarm handling and process control.
Installation Requirements
Mount on a standard DIN rail inside a grounded control cabinet. Supply regulated 24 V DC with proper fusing. Use shielded twisted-pair RS485 cable and activate the built-in 120 ohm terminator only at the two physical ends of the bus segment. Verify slave addresses before commissioning. Provide cabinet cooling if ambient temperature remains above 70°C for long periods.
Usage Precautions
Connect RS485 A/B polarity correctly and avoid reversing shield grounding at multiple points. Do not exceed 32 addressed slaves on one module bus without segmentation. Keep firmware and station quantity records for replacement. Inspect communication faults with Modbus diagnostic tools before replacing the board.
