GE 12SBC23B1D
- Product Name: Type SBC23B Static Breaker Backup Relay (Breaker Failure Relay)
- Product Introduction: A static breaker-failure backup relay designed to provide system backup protection in the event of a circuit breaker failure. One relay is required for each breaker in the protected scheme.
Detailed content
- Technical Specifications:
- Rated Voltage: 48 / 125 / 250 V DC
- Package: M2D draw-out case
- Current Detector: Fast-reset, two independently-adjustable pickup settings for phase (IA, IB, IC) and ground (3I0) currents
- Timer: Adjustable, to allow the primary breaker time to operate correctly
- Output Circuits: Three electrically-separate BFT (Breaker Failure Trip) contacts for tripping backup breakers; two of these circuits include electromechanical series targets
- Instantaneous Contact: One IT unit contact operated by the level detector output
- Power Supply: Regulated internal supply activated by a contact initiation (BFI, 62X, 62Y)
- Surge Suppression: Provided on all AC and DC input circuits
- Functional Features: Independent pickup settings for phase and ground currents, adjustable timing, three isolated BFT trip outputs, instantaneous IT output, surge withstand capability, and capacitance charging capability.
- Application Scenarios: Applicable with any of the several bus/breaker arrangements in general use, across a wide range of fault-current conditions in utility transmission and distribution substations.
- Working Principle: On a breaker-failure event, the BFI contact activates the relay power supply. The fast-reset current detector monitors phase and ground currents. If fault current persists beyond the adjustable timer setting (allowing the primary breaker time to clear), the BFT contacts trip the backup breakers and the IT contact provides instantaneous auxiliary action.
- Installation Requirements: Install in the M2D draw-out case per outline and mounting dimensions in the instruction manual GEK-45464. Perform acceptance tests including timer setting, current detector pickup test, and tripping timer verification before putting into service.
- Usage Notes: The SBC23B model supports optional contact converter. Seal-in, if used on SBC23B/SBC23C, results in a non-isolated IT contact. Periodic contact cleaning and routine maintenance checks are recommended. Complies with applicable ANSI, IEEE, and NEMA standards.
