EATON 8610-FT-NA

Product Name
Industrial single-mode fiber Ethernet media converter.
Product Introduction
This converter transfers 10/100 Mbps copper Ethernet to single-mode optical fiber for long-distance, EMI-immune communication in substations, power plants, water utilities and heavy industrial networks. It operates as a Layer 1 transparent converter without protocol configuration.

  • Latency: negligible Layer 1 store-and-forward delay for real-time control when correctly engineered
Material Composition
  • Metal DIN-rail enclosure with EMI shielding
  • Industrial RJ-45 magnetics and SC optical transceiver
  • Wide-temperature PCB components and surge suppression devices
Structural Characteristics
  • Compact standalone converter with separate copper and fiber ports
  • DIN rail clip and panel-mount provisions
  • LED indicators for power, link and fiber activity where equipped
Working Principle
Ethernet frames from the RJ-45 port are serialized into optical signals at 1310 nm and transmitted through single-mode fiber. The remote converter performs the reverse conversion, preserving MAC-layer transparency and electrical isolation between network segments.
Installation Requirements
  • Use 9/125 µm single-mode fiber and matched SC connectors
  • Provide 10–30 VDC with proper fusing and polarity protection
  • Mount on 35 mm DIN rail in ventilated or outdoor-rated enclosure
  • Keep fiber bend radius within manufacturer limits
Usage Precautions
  • Clean SC connectors before mating; avoid dust and finger contact
  • Do not mix multimode and single-mode fibers without approved adapters
  • Verify link budget for distances near 20 km and for spliced spans
  • Confirm network topology does not require managed-switch features such as VLAN or redundancy protocols
