DELTA TAU OMRON ACC-72E
Product Name
UMAC fieldbus gateway motherboard with interchangeable communication daughter card.
Introduction
ACC-72E is a 3U UMAC gateway board that connects Delta Tau OMRON Turbo PMAC, Power PMAC or UMAC controllers to industrial fieldbus networks. It uses a motherboard and protocol daughter card architecture. The motherboard provides UBUS interface, addressing, diagnostics and dual-port RAM. The daughter card provides the physical fieldbus transceiver and protocol engine. Supported protocols depend on the installed option and include Profibus, DeviceNet, CANopen, ControlNet and CC-Link configurations.

Technical Specifications
UMAC Backplane Interface
UBUS dual-port RAM interface. Board address set by onboard switch or configuration. Data exchanged with PMAC through mapped memory variables. Status registers provide communication, error and configuration information.
Protocol Options
Profibus DP master or slave according to installed COM card. DeviceNet master or slave according to installed COM card. CANopen master or slave according to installed COM card. ControlNet adapter in slave configuration. CC-Link slave according to installed terminal option.
Dual-Port RAM
Gateway DPRAM size depends on protocol. Typical configurations include 2 KB for Profibus slave, Profibus master, ControlNet and DeviceNet slave. Larger DPRAM is used for CANopen master, CANopen slave, DeviceNet master and CC-Link slave according to daughter card type.
Diagnostic Interface
RS232 serial port for SyCon configuration and gateway diagnostics. Front or rear diagnostic connector according to installed option. Status LEDs for power, bus communication, data exchange and fault conditions.
Fieldbus Connectors
D-sub 9-pin for Profibus, CANopen and many DeviceNet options. BNC or coaxial connector for ControlNet according to option. Screw terminal block for CC-Link according to option. Connector type must match the ordered protocol daughter card.
Power Supply
UBUS backplane power for the motherboard and most gateway daughter cards. DeviceNet options require external 24 VDC for the fieldbus side according to configuration. Verify power requirement before commissioning DeviceNet master or slave versions.
Mechanical and Environmental
3U UMAC Eurocard format. Rack slot mounting in UMAC chassis. Typical industrial operating temperature around -10°C to 50°C for commercial gateway listings, while specific manual-rated versions should be confirmed from the ordered option. IP20 cabinet environment. Diagnostic and fieldbus ports accessible from the front or rear according to panel build.
Functional Features
Transparent data exchange between PMAC memory and external fieldbus devices.
Master or slave operation according to protocol option and configuration.
Interchangeable Hilscher or equivalent COM daughter card for protocol change.
DPRAM mapping removes custom packet handling from the motion application.
SyCon configuration for node address, baud rate, I/O size and protocol parameters.
Onboard diagnostics through RS232, LEDs and PMAC status registers.
Isolation and signal conditioning according to daughter card design.
Application Scenarios
UMAC motion controller linked to a Profibus PLC in automotive, packaging or machine tool lines.
CANopen remote I/O, drives, vision systems and safety devices connected to Power PMAC.
DeviceNet sensors, valve manifolds and smart actuators integrated with Turbo PMAC.
ControlNet data exchange in process or aerospace test systems requiring Rockwell-compatible networks.
CC-Link remote stations connected to Japanese automation equipment through UMAC gateways.
Retrofit projects where legacy fieldbus devices must communicate with modern PMAC motion control without replacing the controller.
Performance Parameters
Cyclic I/O update determined by fieldbus baud rate, node count and DPRAM mapping. Profibus supports 9.6 kbps to 12 Mbps according to DP option and network design. CANopen supports standard CAN baud rates according to COM card. DeviceNet supports typical DeviceNet baud rates according to option. DPRAM access through PMAC M-variables provides deterministic read and write of fieldbus bytes. Diagnostic response depends on SyCon configuration, cabling quality and network load.
Material Composition
Industrial multilayer FR-4 gateway motherboard. Metal or flame-retardant UMAC front panel according to option. Gold-plated UBUS edge connector. Shielded D-sub, BNC or terminal connectors according to protocol. Transformer, optocoupler and transceiver components on the communication daughter card for signal isolation and EMC performance.
Structural Characteristics
3U motherboard with rear UBUS connector and onboard address switch. Daughter card socket for the protocol module. Front diagnostic serial port and status LED group. Separate fieldbus port isolated from UMAC logic. Optional front panel, top panel and bottom panel according to open-rack or enclosed UMAC pack configuration.
Working Principle
The PMAC application writes output data to DPRAM addresses assigned to the ACC-72E. The gateway daughter card reads DPRAM, formats the data into the selected fieldbus protocol and transmits it to remote masters or slaves. Incoming fieldbus data is received by the daughter card, stored in DPRAM and mapped to PMAC input variables through UBUS. Address switches and SyCon configuration define memory offset, station identity, baud rate and I/O length. RS232 diagnostics provide commissioning access without disturbing cyclic data.
Installation Requirements
Insert the board into an available UMAC 3U slot with correct address switch setting. Place the gateway close to the CPU or primary controller slot to reduce UBUS communication problems. Install the correct protocol daughter card before power-up. Connect the fieldbus cable with proper termination: Profibus typically 220 ohm at both ends for high-speed segments, CANopen 120 ohm at both ends, DeviceNet 121 ohm at both ends according to network design, ControlNet coaxial termination according to segment rules, CC-Link 130 ohm according to station position. Supply external 24 VDC for DeviceNet options when required. Import GSD, EDS or equivalent configuration files into the external PLC or configuration tool.
Usage Precautions
Order the exact protocol option because the motherboard alone does not determine Profibus, DeviceNet, CANopen, ControlNet or CC-Link operation. Do not mix address settings with other UBUS DPRAM boards. Verify termination and shield grounding before starting cyclic communication. Use SyCon only with the supported gateway firmware and daughter card. Avoid hot insertion unless the UMAC chassis and option explicitly support it. Check DeviceNet external power separately because backplane power alone may not supply the fieldbus side. Replace the daughter card through the approved procedure and reload the saved configuration after replacement.
