B&R X20DO2633

Product Introduction:
The B&R X20DO2633 is an 8-channel digital output module in source (PNP) configuration from the B&R X20 compact I/O system. It delivers 24 VDC at up to 0.5 A per channel in a source configuration, making it ideal for driving PNP-type field devices, indicator lamps, and solenoid valves that require a positive switching signal. The module uses M12 connector technology for field-side wiring.

Functional Features:

  • 8 independent source-type digital outputs — switches +24 VDC to the load
  • Per-channel short-circuit protection with automatic current limiting
  • Overcurrent protection — shuts down affected channel
  • Overtemperature protection — thermal shutdown at > 125 °C junction temperature
  • LED channel status indicators (green = ON, red = fault)
  • Galvanic isolation (500 V DC) between channels and backplane
  • Diagnostic data transfer to controller for fault monitoring

Structural Features:

  • Housing: Polycarbonate (PC) + glass fiber (GF)
  • M12 8-pin A-coded connector — IP67 rated when mated
  • Backplane connector — plug-in to X20 base or X20HB terminal base
  • DIN rail mountable (35 mm TS 35)
  • Dimensions: 25 × 90 × 75 mm

Working Principle:
The B&R controller sends digital commands via the X20 backplane bus. Each output channel contains a PNP power transistor (source configuration). When the controller sets a channel to logic “1”, the PNP transistor switches ON, connecting the +24 VDC from the internal bus to the output terminal, sourcing current to the external load. When logic “0” is set, the transistor switches OFF, disconnecting the output from +24 VDC (output goes to 0 V / open).

Advantages & Highlights:

  • Source (PNP) configuration — directly compatible with standard PNP sensors and actuators without external pull-up resistors
  • M12 connector with IP67 — withstands washdown and harsh field conditions
  • 0.5 A per channel — sufficient for most solenoid valves and small relays
  • Per-channel diagnostics — immediate fault identification
  • Compact design — reduces cabinet footprint by up to 50 %

Applicable Industries:

  • Automotive manufacturing
  • Pharmaceutical packaging
  • Food processing
  • Semiconductor equipment
  • Printing presses
  • Woodworking machinery
  • Metal forming machines

Installation Requirements:

  • Mount on 35 mm DIN rail (EN 60715)
  • Maintain ≥ 10 mm clearance above and below for ventilation
  • Use M12 8-pin A-coded cables — max length 100 m
  • M12 connector torque: 1.5 Nm
  • Power supplied via X20 backplane bus (24 VDC) — no external power to outputs

Usage Precautions:

  • Maximum 0.5 A per channel — exceeding this triggers overcurrent protection
  • Do not apply external voltage to output terminals — the module sources its own 24 VDC
  • Do not short-circuit output to GND — this will trigger immediate protection shutdown
  • Do not connect inductive loads without flyback diodes (for loads > 10 mH)
  • Observe polarity — source outputs deliver +24 VDC; connect load between output and GND
