B&R BM4-F-DIO-0
Product Type: Digital Input/Output Bus Terminal Module with F-Fieldbus Interface
Product Introduction:
The B&R BM4-F-DIO-0 is a compact digital I/O bus terminal module designed for the B&R X20 distributed I/O system. It communicates via the F-Fieldbus (PROFIBUS DP) interface and provides configurable digital input and output channels for industrial automation applications. The module is engineered for high-speed signal processing in harsh industrial environments.

- Electronic overcurrent protection on all output channels
- Configurable input filtering (0.1 ms to 10 ms) to suppress signal noise
Structural Characteristics:
- Snap-in mounting rail (DIN rail TS35)
- Spring-loaded push-in terminal connections for wire sizes 0.14 mm² to 2.5 mm²
- Compact modular housing made of glass-fiber reinforced polyamide (PA66-GF30)
- Transparent front cover for LED visibility
- Rear bus connector for X20 system integration
Working Principle:
The module receives digital signal states from field devices (sensors, switches, actuators) via its input channels. These states are encoded and transmitted over the PROFIBUS DP bus to the controller. Simultaneously, the controller sends output commands via the bus, which the module decodes and drives the corresponding output channels to control field actuators (relays, solenoid valves, indicator lamps). All communication is managed by the integrated PROFIBUS DP slave controller ASIC.
Advantages & Highlights:
- High channel density in a compact form factor (32 I/O in one module)
- Fully galvanically isolated channels ensure noise immunity in electrically noisy environments
- Fast bus communication with cycle times under 10 ms
- Wide operating temperature range from -25°C to +70°C for extreme environments
- ATEX Zone 2 certification for use in potentially explosive atmospheres
Applicable Industries:
- Packaging machinery
- Material handling and conveyor systems
- Assembly line automation
- Process automation (ON/OFF valve control)
- Building automation (lighting, HVAC control)
Installation Requirements:
- Mount on DIN rail TS35 (EN 60715)
- Ensure 24V DC bus power is available from the X20 bus coupler
- Maximum bus length for PROFIBUS DP: 1200 m at 1.5 Mbps (with repeaters: up to several km)
- Maintain minimum 100 mm clearance above and below the module for heat dissipation
- Use shielded PROFIBUS cable (9841 or equivalent, 120Ω characteristic impedance)
Usage Precautions:
- Do not exceed 0.5 A per output channel — overcurrent will trigger electronic protection and shut down the channel
- Do not apply voltages exceeding 30V DC to input channels
- Ensure proper grounding of the PROFIBUS shield at one end only to avoid ground loops
- Do not insert or remove the module while the bus is powered unless hot-swap is confirmed by the system
- Verify bus termination resistors (120Ω) are installed at both ends of the PROFIBUS segment
