Atlas Copco TC-4000-P-PN-ES
Product Introduction:
The TC-4000-P-PN-ES is a two-stage towable compressor with PTO (Power Take-Off) drive capability and electric start. The “P” indicates two-stage compression, “PN” indicates PTO drive compatibility, and “ES” indicates electric start motor. This configuration allows the unit to be driven by a PTO from a truck or tractor, with an electric starter motor for initial engagement.

Material Composition:
- Frame: Welded high-tensile steel with powder coating
- Air End: Cast iron two-stage rotary screw — oil-flooded
- Tank: ASME / PED certified carbon steel
- PTO Shaft: Hardened alloy steel with shear bolt protection
- Canopy: Galvanized steel with acoustic liner
Structural Characteristics:
- Tandem-axle trailer with PTO connection point at rear
- Hydraulic leveling jacks on all four corners
- Integrated PTO shaft guard and shear bolt housing
- Full-width service platform
Working Principle:
The host vehicle’s PTO shaft delivers mechanical power to the compressor air end through a gearbox and clutch assembly. The electric start motor (15 kW) engages the clutch to bring the air end up to operating speed before the PTO takes over. Air is compressed in two stages with intercooling, producing cooler, drier output air than single-stage units.
Advantage Highlights:
- No dedicated engine — powered by existing fleet vehicles, reducing capital cost
- Two-stage compression delivers cooler air suitable for all pneumatic tools
- Electric start enables operation without running the host vehicle engine (reduces fuel use and wear)
- High efficiency at partial load due to PTO governor control
Applicable Industries:
Fleet-based construction, road building, drilling operations, military, rental companies with truck fleets, mining
Model Series: TC-4000 Series — Towable Compressors (4,000 CFM class) — PTO Variant
Installation Requirements:
- Host vehicle must have PTO output rated at minimum 315 kW at 540 RPM
- Trailer must be leveled on firm, compacted ground
- PTO shaft alignment must be verified before each connection
Usage Precautions:
- Always engage electric starter before engaging PTO clutch
- Do not exceed 540 RPM PTO input speed — will damage air end
- Monitor host vehicle transmission temperature during extended operation
- Service PTO shaft universal joints every 500 hours
