  • PROFINET Controller: Hilscher cifX 50-RE or equivalent
  • CAN ControllerNXP SJA1000 with isolated transceiver (ISO1050)
  • PCB: 4-layer FR-4, ENIG finish

Structural Features:

  • DIN rail mountable (35 mm)
  • 4 RJ45 ports (EtherCAT x2, PROFINET x1, Modbus x1)
  • 1 D-Sub 9 port (CANopen)
  • LED indicators: Power, EtherCAT Link, PROFINET Link, CAN Activity, Data Transfer
  • Web server for configuration (accessible via any port)

Working Principle:
The module contains dedicated protocol ASICs for each network. The EtherCAT slave (ET1100) processes EtherCAT frames in hardware. The PROFINET device (cifX 50) handles PN IO communication. The CANopen node (SJA1000) manages CAN frames. A central FPGA or microcontroller performs data mapping between protocols using configurable mapping tables stored in non-volatile memory (256 KB FRAM). Data is routed in real-time with latency < 5 ms between any protocol pair.

Key Advantages:

  • 4 protocols in one module eliminates need for multiple gateways
  • Hardware-accelerated EtherCAT for deterministic performance
  • Web-based configuration — no special software needed
  • 256 mapping entries per protocol pair for flexible data exchange

Applicable Industries:
Automotive manufacturing, semiconductor fabs, logistics centers, multi-vendor plant integration, brownfield upgrades.

Installation Requirements:

  • Mount on 35 mm DIN rail
  • Connect EtherCAT in daisy-chain topology (IN → device → OUT)
  • Terminate CAN bus with 120 Ω at both ends
  • Assign unique IP addresses for PROFINET and Modbus TCP ports

Usage Precautions:

  • Do not mix EtherCAT and PROFINET on same physical port
  • Set CAN baud rate to match all nodes on bus (typically 500 kbps)
  • Back up mapping tables before any changes
  • Do not exceed 256 entries per mapping table (module limit)
