ABB AX722F

Product Name: ABB AX722F combined analog input and output module
Product Overview: This module provides centralized analog signal interfacing for ABB Freelance, S700, AC700F and AC900F control systems. It acquires sensor signals and drives analog actuators from one rail-mounted unit.

Detailed content

Technical Specifications: The module contains 8 configurable analog input channels and 8 configurable analog output channels. Inputs accept ±10 V, 0/10 V, 0/4–20 mA and RTD temperature types such as Pt100. Outputs provide ±10 V, 0/10 V and 0/4–20 mA. Resolution is 12 bits plus sign. Module supply is 24 V DC. Electrical isolation separates I/O circuits from the module logic; channels within the same group share common reference.
Functional Features: Each input channel is independently configurable. Wire-break, short-circuit and overflow diagnostics are supported on applicable signal types. The module works as PROFIBUS remote I/O or as direct I/O with compatible ABB controllers. Terminal units TU715F or TU716F provide screw or spring wiring.
Performance Parameters: Accuracy and stability suit process control of temperature, pressure, level and flow. Typical operating temperature is 0 °C to 55 °C, with wider storage temperature -25 °C to 70 °C. Relative humidity limit is 95 percent non-condensing. Protection rating is IP20.
Material Composition: The housing uses molded industrial plastic and metal shielding. Internal boards use multilayer PCB, precision resistors, analog multiplexers and isolated power stages.
Structural Characteristics: The module is a narrow S700-style plug-in unit with front wiring through the terminal unit. Status LEDs indicate power, channel faults and communication state.
Working Principle: Input amplifiers condition voltage, current or RTD signals, convert them through analog-to-digital stages and transfer data to the controller bus. Output stages convert digital commands to calibrated voltage or current signals for valves, positioners and drives.
Installation Requirements: Mount the module on the designated ABB terminal unit inside a grounded control cabinet. Configure channel types in Control Builder or 800xA engineering tools before applying process signals. Verify earthing, shield termination and power polarity.
Usage Precautions: Perform installation with the 24 V DC supply disconnected. Do not hot-swap the module unless the system revision explicitly supports it. Verify channel isolation and grounding before connecting intrinsic-safety or high-noise field circuits.
