ABB AI723F

Product Name
S700 I/O AI 723F analog input module.
Product Introduction
The AI 723F provides 16 configurable analog input channels for ABB Freelance AC 700F and AC 900F controllers or for PROFIBUS remote I/O. It acquires voltage, current, resistance thermometer and, where configured, digital input signals for process automation.

Detailed content

Technical Specifications
Sixteen analog input channels in two groups of eight. Voltage inputs 0–10 V and −10 to +10 V. Current inputs 0–20 mA and 4–20 mA. RTD inputs Pt100, Pt1000 and Ni1000 in two-wire or three-wire connection. Channels can be configured as digital inputs. Resolution twelve bits plus sign. Voltage input impedance greater than 100 kΩ. Current input impedance approximately 330 Ω. External supply 24 V DC, current draw 0.15 A, power consumption 6 W. Maximum field cable length 100 m. Common-mode input 24 V DC. Field side electrically isolated from internal electronics; no isolation between channels. Front LEDs for power, communication and per-channel status. Terminal units TU 715F or TU 716F. Dimensions 67.5 mm width, 76 mm depth, 54 mm height. Weight approximately 0.15 kg. IP20 enclosure. Operating temperature 0°C to +60°C. Storage temperature −40°C to +70°C.
Functional Features
Per-channel signal-type configuration. Mixed voltage, current, RTD and digital input in one module. PROFIBUS DP remote I/O operation. Direct I/O for Freelance AC 700F and AC 900F. Spring or screw terminal support depending on terminal unit. UL Class I Division 2, cULus, CE and RoHS compliance.
Application Scenarios
Chemical and petrochemical process signal acquisition. Power plant and water-treatment analog monitoring. Industrial furnace temperature measurement. Building automation sensing. Freelance DCS local and remote I/O cabinets.
Performance Parameters
Sixteen channels, twelve-bit plus sign conversion, 6 W power, 100 m maximum analog cable, 24 V DC field isolation, 0–60°C operating range.
Material Composition
Industrial-grade plastic module housing. S700 analog conditioning and A/D printed circuit board. Spring-type or screw-type field terminals according to terminal unit. Rear backplane connector.
Structural Characteristics
Standard S700 slim module. Two eight-channel groups. Front wiring terminals, rear bus connector, DIN-rail terminal-unit mounting.
Working Principle
Each channel conditions voltage, current or RTD resistance through precision input circuits. Current inputs use a shunt, RTD inputs use excitation current and reference resistance, voltage inputs use high-impedance buffering, and the A/D converter produces digital values transmitted to the Freelance controller or PROFIBUS master through the backplane.
Installation Requirements
Mount the TU 715F or TU 716F terminal unit on a 35 mm DIN rail inside a control cabinet. Connect 24 V DC auxiliary supply to the terminal unit. Use shielded cable for analog signals and separate analog wiring from power wiring. Select two-wire or three-wire RTD connection exactly as configured in engineering software. Connect PROFIBUS DP only when the module is used as remote I/O.
Usage Precautions
Channels are not isolated from one another. Do not apply signals outside the configured voltage, current or RTD range. Configure every channel before energizing the system. Do not hot-swap the module. Verify PT/Ni/RTD type, wiring polarity and calibration during commissioning.
